Clean Skincare That Actually Works!
The explosion in clean beauty that’s happening now is beyond exciting. Projected to hit 39 billion by 2033 (up from 8.7 billion last year), the clean beauty market is firing up and to the right 📈. After years of lagging behind other countries (such as the UK, among others), US companies are taking note and giving conscious consumers thoughtful products free from harmful ingredients. As exciting as this is, it can also be totally overwhelming. Once we’ve determined which products are safe to use, it brings up another, possibly more important, question: “Does this product actually work?”
If you’re anything like me, you’ve learned the hard way that not every product does what it says it will — clean or otherwise (just think about the search for a clean deodorant). My bathroom cabinet holds an array of lightly used products that held enormous promise at the time of purchase but, ultimately, just didn’t do the trick. In a recent effort to “spring clean” my cabinets, I removed everything I hadn’t touched in a year. In their place, I put back only those items that have earned a spot on my “daily driver” list.
Before I share them – I want to note that I firmly believe in individualism. What works for my skin will not necessarily work for yours, the diet that works for me will not necessarily work for you, etc. Keeping that in mind, here are the clean products that have worked the best for me, in case they might work for you, too.
The Daily Drivers
Foamy! Cleanser! Prior to this, I hopped around from cleanser to cleanser, never really zeroing in on any one that worked especially well on my skin. This is the one that changed that!
I’ve been using this formulation recently, made in collaboration with Kate Bosworth and her company Kind-est. Kate and Dr. Nigma teaming up are a match made in heaven – smart, beautiful, and genuinely kind women who made a supremely effective product I am delighted to support.
Dr. Nigma Vitamin C Serum
This is a formula she’s working on that will launch this summer.
The scent of this alone keeps me coming back (and back)! Thick, multi-purpose, and truly effective for “all over.”
When I’m out of this, my shower time suffers! Nothing makes a shower more luxurious than this body scrub.
Mentioned recently here, this one works double duty for hair and body. I now look forward to dousing my hair in oil before bed (or simply 10 minutes before showering). Silky strands are the result! And, wow, the scent!
Launched in 2020, Ilia’s serum meets sunscreen meets foundation formulation is just brilliant. “No Makeup Makeup” is always my goal, and this does that job perfectly! Ilia can shade match you to make sure you get the right tone for your skin.
When someone compliments my skin, one of three things has usually happened. I’ve either recently been to see Dr. Nigma Talib (who addresses all skin woes from the inside out!), or I’ve used either Ilia’s Tint Skin or Weekend Skin by Iris & Romeo.
Okay – this one is more of a weekly driver, but I look forward to using this sheet mask (usually on a Sunday – tonight’s the night!) to brighten and moisturize my face. Each package comes with 4 sheet masks infused with “potent combination of prebiotics, marine collagen, edelweiss extract, seaweed extract, and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid.” Delicious.
*Not to give away the surprise, but if you’re a paid subscriber then one of these will be making its way to you shortly as a ‘thank you’ for supporting The Lacey List!
You’ll notice over half of the products I use every day are by Dr. Nigma Talib. I’ve talked about Dr. Nigma before, and I probably will again (and again)! She is a world-renowned naturopathic doctor who I’ve had the pleasure of seeing since 2020. I am a huge believer in everything she does. She accepts new patients via referrals only and rightfully so! Once she takes you on as a client, she treats you like family. Her team even set me as an affiliate when I launched this newsletter, so if you purchase any of her links today, I get a small commission. Thank you, Nigma! If any of you happen to be in LA and want to see her, let me know! I would be more than delighted to refer you.
New & Promising
These are newer to my cabinet and quickly leveling up into daily driver category.
I’ve only used this for about a week, but I am really loving it so far. The formula is lightweight yet moisturizing and designed to strengthen your skin barrier over time.
I’ve used Westman Atelier’s blush, contour, and concealer sticks for years and this might just be the thing to get me to switch.
This is more than a clean mascara! Infused with a pentapeptide serum, Lash Up also aids in growing luscious, thick lashes over time. More importantly, this might just be the only mascara I’ve found that doesn’t give me raccoon eyes several hours after application. For that reason alone, I’m hooked.
The brainchild of illustrator, photographer, and author Garance Doré and her business partner Emily Yore, Doré is a line of French pharmacy-inspired skincare products designed to simplify routines for “less time in the mirror” and “more time in the moment.” Since test-driving this trio and their face roller, I can confidently say these will be with me for the long haul. (For anyone with a small child in the diaper “era,” Le Baume doubles as a great replacement for Aquaphor that is formulated without petrolium!).
Beyond the fact that they work, all Doré products are EWG VERIFIED™ (the highest stamp of approval in clean beauty!!!) and suitable for sensitive skin.
So there you have it! Twelve products that I truly believe are worth the investment and do what they say they will. What are you using that’s working for you?! Share the love in the comments or the chat so we can collectively cut through the clutter!
Happy Sunday – wishing you a clean and beautiful week ahead. ☀️
