About Lacey

I have been interested in health and wellness for as long as I can remember, dating back to at least seventh or eighth grade. Since then, wellness has been a consistent interest of mine. I’ve spent countless hours rabbit hole-ing on the subject – researching, testing and learning. With each installment of The Lacey List, I'll be sharing the best of what I've learned and hoping to add value to readers in the process.

I think of health and wellness not as a final destination, but as an ongoing, ever-evolving journey for life. My underlying goal is not to achieve perfection but, instead, to unlock the happiest, most confident and balanced version of myself. So while I am far from perfect —what I am is highly curious and committed to reporting on the ‘best of’ in the health and wellness space. – Lacey White

It all started with my mom, Betsy Young. I get choked up trying to put into words just how wonderful she was. She radiated warmth and natural beauty and lovingly dedicated her adult life to raising her four children – my three older brothers and me. As is too often the case, we lost her far too soon.

Much to our dismay as kids, my mom was way ahead of the curve on health and wellness. Decades before Erewhon existed on every street corner in LA, she sought out specialty health food stores in search of organic produce and tried her best to steer us away from traditional junk. She had our entire family seeing a naturopathic doctor (who we lovingly dubbed “The Witch Doctor”). Even in the early 90s, my mom knew to teach us about trans fats, preservatives and carcinogens. Going to the grocery store with her was a massive ordeal because she would read every single nutrition label.

And yet…somehow still, in 2012, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. In the seven plus years that followed, my mom fought the most valiant battle with cancer, never once complaining or letting us see her fear. And if you’re asking ‘how could someone so health conscious fall victim to breast cancer’… the answer I keep coming back to is that there seems to be a cruel amount of randomness in a cancer diagnosis. While there is this undoubted element to health that seems to be totally out of our control, I firmly believe that the more we know and the more proactive we are, the better off our chances will be of leading happy, healthy and fulfilling lives.

My mom is the inspiration behind The Lacey List, and she continues to motivate me every single day. My hope is that by sharing what I learn on my own journey, I can inspire others in the same way.
